about

Aaaaaaand BOOM. You made it to the final track! Honestly, this one might be my favorite... Possibly. I suck at playing favorites. But... This song represents me pretty dang well if I do say so myself.
What I'm trying to get at is that... Oftentimes what makes us fight those we love and emotionally wreck them through our actions is something that we're just stuck on in life, whether that be a true addiction or a roadblock slapped in the middle of this prodigious highway (thank you, Rascal Flatts, but not really). And when we get stuck on that thing, we tear up everything around us as we try to dig our way out. It's quick-sand, and there's no means of escape, so we flail and hit and kick and scream. Like raccoon babies.
But back to the point. The first three verses and first two choruses are from the perspective of that person stuck in their self-created Muk. They hate themselves, they think they're nothing but a whore who sells themselves out, betrays those they love, but has to do it to survive this world. But then, in the little bridge thing and the last chorus, those who they are acting against, from their parents to their friends to their spouse to Christ Himself, give them the answers to their questions. They're not going anywhere. They love them no matter what. They realize how screwed up they are because they've gone through the same emotions, the same feelings, the same trying times... And they will not leave them no matter how long it takes to work it all out.
And so, with the most innocent of gestures, the first thing that marks a milestone for a blossoming couple in 4th grade... They offer to hold our hand. And they don't care about the crap we've smeared all over it.

lyrics

Walk down that road
My head is hung low
I know I'm not alone
But why's it feel that way today?

I'm waiting for the night
Take away the light
I can't bear the sight
Of what I truly am today

Loneliness my corner
Boredom my vice
Slave in those shackles
Self-contained
Please don't stay

Why not just wander
Away from its entice?
Name in the raffle
Waiting for a miracle
I said don't stay

Why are you here?
Why don't you run from the pain?
Why don't you scowl with disdain?
I'm a dirty whore
Lying on this floor
So don't you dare even touch my hand

I've gone and tricked myself
Thrown it all to hell
For all I can tell
I'm a cheap show
Just hate me

Swore it'd suffice
Stay beneath that surface
Now look for my service
The red lights
You gotta hate me

So why can't you hear
All these sirens of late?
Good girls like you should stay away
I'm a dirty whore
Should be out the door
So why do you dare hold my hand?

I have to let you know
That I love you so
So please just shut your mouth
You've no idea how
This heart beats for you
No matter what you do
So hold on tight my dear
We're off into the light, no fear

You are why I'm here
And for you I can wait
Does not matter how long you take
You are not a whore
Be a good ol' sport
And will you please hold my hand?
